NH Gives is “a powerful, statewide 24-hour online fundraising event that is designed to build community, connect donors to local nonprofits and generate excitement about the nonprofit sector.” #NHGives kicks of at 6pm on Wednesday 6/6, which is before our next issue!
We asked local philanthropic guru Alyssa Wright to share three ways to make the day meaningful and ensure that your gift, no matter what size, has a powerful impact for a local organization.
With twenty-four hours to give, the race to unleash our most generous selves is on! NHGives presents a unique opportunity — so here are three ways that you can make the most of it!
1) Give a gift that matches your story.
Money flows to causes that we all care about because we each have a unique and different story to tell. Whatever that story is for you, shape your donation around it. Grow up on food stamps? Consider giving to the local food pantry to help a family in need. Did an arts-oriented program change your life as a young person? Choose to donate to a local arts group. Connect with your story and make the day more meaningful by investing in a nonprofit that you are personally grateful for.
2) Check out the incentives and give when it matters.
Read the list of prizes here and schedule your giving into your calendar for the day. Then, make it fun! Open up some white wine at 5:58pm and countdown to try and be the first donor at 6pm for your favorite organization so they win a prize! Encourage friends to do the same. Share wine and cheese from your laptops as you hustle to fundraise on social media before 9pm. At pm, see if one of your organizations got the $250 “most donations” prize! Then, celebrate by opening a second bottle (well, if you really want to…)
3) Make #NHGives the start of your philanthropic journey, not just a moment.
24-hour campaigns encourage hot and fast fundraising, but many organizations need your support all year round. Spend some time checking out each organization‘s website and social media, learning more and finding ways to stay connected throughout the year. If you’re feeling really bold, start up a monthly donation through their website and ensure they have the support their missions need 365 days a year.
