You’ve probably noticed by now that there are bike stands scattered about downtown with baskets with the city logo on them. What’s the deal?
They’re part of a bike sharing program by Zagster, and there are are a few different membership plans, but basically, if you think you’ll use on at least two or three different days in the next year, just pay $25 for the annual membership. Then you can take a bike anywhere anytime, as long as you return it within two hours (then you can go right out again if you want). So — great for trips to a store where you might buy a bag of groceries or fill a shopping bag that you can toss in the front basket.
Park at one of the free lots around the outskirts of town — say, the Parrott Ave municipal lot, the Masonic lot or City Hall lot, and take the bike anytime you want to get across town quickly. Pretty nifty — and might even free up some parking spots downtown, too.
