If you see this guide around the Seacoast, grab it! The Seacoast Harvest guide is a comprehensive guide to all things local farm & food — farm details, farmers’ market listings, etc. I picked this up from 45 Market Street Bakery & Café in Somersworth, but you can find it in many places around.
What I LOVED about this guide, in addition to it being just a gorgeous publication, was the sheer volume of super helpful information. There was this chart of the availability of various local foods:
I don’t know about you, but I know I am not taking advantage of the rich variety of local foods — and part of the excuse of people who consider themselves busy can be that they just don’t know what to get, when or from whom.
Enter the extensive, yet easily readable, directory of farms in the Strafford, Rockingham and York counties:
The guide also features information on how to use SNAP at farmers’ markets (did you know SNAP dollars go further at farmers’ markets? Plus free fruits & veggie coupons!), and where to find SAMM — the Seacoast Area Mobile Market, a food truck of fresh farmed foods, which I ALSO did not know existed until I picked up this guide!
We’re going to start sharing regular profiles of various local farms here in the #PortsmouthLOVE Letters, making it super easy to see at a glance what you should be buying from a nearby farm on any given week. I look forward to these future features and I hope you do, too!
