One of Broadway’s brightest lights, soprano Lisa Vroman, presents a personal program of music at the University of New Hampshire’s Johnson Theatre in the Paul Creative Arts Center on April 28th, to sing for her brother, Neil.
This rare, legacy performance benefits the Neil B. Vroman Student Award Fund. Neil was a researcher and teacher, Associate Professor and Associate Dean in the College of Health & Human Services at UNH for three decades. He passed away in 2016.
The program for the Durham concert includes a medley of Broadway tunes and Classical standards from several revered songbooks, including that of Gershwin, Porter and Bernstein, and features Vroman as well as the award-winning pianist, Shane Schag as accompanist. Schag is the Music Director for the American Musical Theater Ensemble at the Manhattan School of Music, serves as staff pianist for Carnegie Hall’s Musical Explorers concert series and is on the faculty of Operaworks in Los Angeles.
“Most of the music for the Durham concert centers on the classic On and Off Broadway songs Neil and I and our other two siblings grew up with,” says Vroman from her Pasadena, CA. home. “Our mother was a music educator, we were so lucky to have all kinds of music all around us. From Rachmaninoff Piano works to Oratorio, from Broadway to Classics, we loved it all.”
“Neil loved UNH and I can’t imagine a better way to love and honor my brother than to sing for his university community, friends and family.” — Lisa Vroman
Tickets to Vroman’s Saturday, April 28th performance, which begins at 5:30 pm, may be purchased at www.unharts.com. Tickets are $40 for the general public and $15 for UNH Students and Youth 17 and under.
