Dear Portsmouth,
Despite being in a climate that experiences a pretty hefty winter, you produce a surprising abundance of great local food.
This week we’re highlighting one of the many local restaurants that sources from many local farms and food merchants. But there’s something else you can do to sustain the local food economy (and therefore the local environment) while also helping people who have food insecurity.
You can do it by making a donation to Seacoast Eat Local. Donations go directly to helping families on SNAP (food stamps) stretch their dollars even further when shopping at farmers market and local farms. Since local food isn’t always the cheapest option, programs like this that maximize SNAP dollars when shopping at farms can make the difference to offer a realistic choice of eating local to families who otherwise might not be able to afford that choice.
‘Tis always the season to eat local and support our neighbors!
