If you’re not familiar with Instagram’s relatively new “Stories” feature, it allows you to upload a photo or video and add enhancements like text, drawings, notations and even tag (link to) people or businesses. (Note: Instagram Stories are ONLY viewable through the mobile version of Instagram — you can’t see them on a desktop/browser version of Instagram)
So for last week’s issue, we screenshotted the entire newsletter, and then were able to tag on Instagram all of the local farms, restaurants, events and venues we mentioned — and add a little interactivity to our puppy reveal. It was a lot of fun and we’ll keep doing it for at least the next few weeks to see if it catches on.
We haven’t seen anyone else use Instagram Stories this way as an online publication outlet, so we’re pretty excited about it. But it also takes a lot of extra time to create — so if you like reading the newsletter that way, be sure to let us know (by hitting reply, or replying on Instagram) so we will know to keep doing it!
To view last week’s issue, go to instagram.com/portsmouthlove_ * and you’ll see “12/21/17 issue” pinned to our profile as a highlighted Story. (Again, Stories are only visible on your mobile device!)
* We’re at “@portsmouthlove_” with the underscore on Instagram & Twitter, until/unless we can ever nab the underscore-less handles/usernames on those platforms.
A few hours after this email hits your inbox, you’ll be able to see this week’s issue as well. Who knows, if you’re an Instagram fan, maybe you’ll choose to read the newsletter this way over email some weeks. We’re excited to see how people like the Insta-format.
Please let us know what you think about this new way to read The #PortsmouthLOVE Letter!
