Just over the bridge (either Memorial or high-rise Piscataqua River Bridge — I’ll leave it to you to decide which traffic is lighter on any given day, with Sarah Long still under construction…) in Kittery is Woodland Farms Brewery. A delightful brewery nestled right into Weathervane’s building (but a distinct brewery with it’s own farm-vibe front and patio!), Woodland Farms opened about 6 months ago. The name hearkens back to a dairy farm which bore the Woodland Farms moniker, owned by the family of brewery founder Patrick Rowan. And bonus, the brewery also serves up free popcorn with its pints.
I enjoyed the chocolate stout so much I took a growler home with me. And that’s another fun local tip: buying growlers from local brewers can not only support local breweries, but can save the waste and carbon footprint of six packs or other single-serving packaged beers (even if from a local brewer).
But ho! Beer isn’t the only great thing about the joint — is that Matt Talbot art on the wall?!

Visit Woodland Farms Brewery the next time you’re in Kitt’ry — or just make the trip the 2.5 miles from downtown Portsmouth!
