At a forum tonight organized by local parking garage advocate group Portsmouth Parking Problems, Mayor Eric Spear took a moment to point out a powerful statistic.
The mayor pointed out that if just the people in the room listening to him at that moment all stayed home last election cycle or the election before that, the outcome could have been different.Just in case anyone was wondering if their vote counted, he said, the difference between 9th place (winning a seat on City Council) and 10th place (not winning a seat on City Council) in 2011 was just 12 votes. In 2009, the difference between 9th and 10th place was just six votes.
His message to interested Portsmouth residents was simply: Vote!
